Process Overview

Why forging over casting?

Forging deforms solid metal under controlled pressure, aligning the grain flow with the part geometry. This produces components with higher tensile strength, better fatigue life, and improved impact resistance compared to equivalent castings. For structural members, flanges, pressure-rated fittings, and safety-critical parts, forging is often specified by the customer or required by design standards.

Oakmet coordinates hot forging and cold forging programs, including ring rolling, from forging houses experienced in demanding alloys such as Inconel 718, Ti-6Al-4V, super duplex stainless, and 4140/4340 alloy steel.
